Many attorneys think they need a different job. Sometimes they do.
But sometimes the bigger issue is that they have spent so long working under constant pressure that the pressure starts to feel normal.
You want more money.
You want reasonable hours.
You want to take a vacation without feeling guilty about it.
You want a team that helps you get the work done.
You want to be recognized for the work you are already doing.
Those are reasonable things to want.
The challenge is that chronic stress can make it difficult to see clearly what is actually causing the problem. You know you are unhappy, but it becomes harder to identify whether the issue is the job, the environment, the workload, the expectations, or something else entirely.
I see this with attorneys all the time.
They know something needs to change. They just are not always sure what that change should be.
Before you start applying to every job posting you see, spend some time getting clear about what is making your current situation unsustainable.
That clarity makes every decision that follows easier.
