As a bar exam mindset mentor, one of the most rewarding aspects of my work is guiding bar exam takers through the ups and downs of their preparation journey. Recently, I held a group session where we focused on celebrating the small wins—and let me tell you, these moments are so crucial in the midst of bar prep.
We kicked off the session by asking everyone to share what they were celebrating that week. I could feel the energy shift as soon as we started talking about wins. Matea, one of my dedicated mentees, was celebrating her consistency. She had come so far from those early days when fear and worry dominated her thoughts. Now, she was nearly at the finish line, pushing through the bar prep grind like a pro. It was amazing to see her progress, and I made sure to highlight how much she had grown.
In our session, we talked about how important it is to acknowledge these milestones, no matter how small they seem. Every step forward is a step closer to your goal, and it's these small victories that build the momentum you need to keep going. Marwa, another mentee, shared that she had finally gotten her morning routine back. I could feel the pride in her voice as she explained how reclaiming that routine made her feel more in control of her bar prep. That win was not just about time management—it was a step toward owning her future and prioritizing her needs.
This is the kind of progress we need to keep track of during bar prep. It's so easy to get caught up in the next big goal or the looming exam date, but without pausing to celebrate the steps you've taken, you risk losing the motivation that got you this far.
As a bar exam mentor, I always encourage my clients to reflect on what’s going well. That simple act of focusing on what’s working can shift your entire perspective. It reminds you of your strength, of the progress you’ve made, and it gives you the energy to keep going.
So, what are you celebrating this week? Maybe it’s something small, like getting through a full practice test, or maybe it’s as big as nailing your essay timing. Whatever it is, take a moment to celebrate. It’s these wins that will carry you through to exam day.
