Dana took the Florida Bar Exam twice before passing the bar. In her #journeytoesquire, she overcame bar exam stress and anxiety, as well as the pressures of her family needing her during dire illness.
Dana and I first talked just a few weeks before her first Bar Exam (she booked a Confidence Kickstart call--see link below). Instead of thinking she needed a bar exam tutor (which would be most people's first thought), Dana knew her bar exam mindset was the culprit. See some life things had happened before the bar that already affected Dana's confidence. She, like so many other bar takers, couldn't take another hit by failing the bar.
Fear of failing the bar (and taking another hit to that confidence) caused procrastination and procrastinating caused a bit of testing anxiety. On her second attempt, her family desperately needed her time and emotional support as they battled a life-threatening situation. Her mindset again was far deeper of an influence on her bar exam performance than the family pressures she dealt with during bar review.
After her first two attempts at passing the bar exam, Dana now dealt with a brand new culprit. The lockdown and isolation caused by the pandemic brought this very outgoing, vivacious, and adventurous soul nearly to tears on a daily basis. Dana loves traveling, fine dining, and socializing. However, on top of there being a lockdown, Dana is immunocompromised, so she had to be extra careful--and extra isolated. As if studying for the bar exam wasn't isolating enough...
But inside our Bar Exam Mentoring Circle, Dana found a judgment-free zone, with people just like her, led by mentors who have walked the path before her and knew what mindset pitfalls to avoid. Dana not only got academic tips such as how to study stress-free, reduce testing anxiety, arrange a suitable study schedule for her life and improve her memory for the MBE questions, she also got life advice that helped smooth the mental terrain on the path to passing. Questions like, do I work while I study? How do I tell others to leave me be without being mean? What if I just don't *feel* like studying? Were all taken care of inside our Mentoring Circle.
These were more than just tips to pass the bar exam, they went above and beyond whatever a student gets out of BarBri, Kaplan, Themis, or the many other bar reviews out there (in fact, when bar takers talk with us we help them get a sure sense of which bar prep course will work for them, saving money and time--not to mention decreasing the risk of failing).
Dana's story is an inspiration, and also a similar story to many a repeat bar exam taker who enters our program looking to finally pass.
